Territory

A territory is an area claimed by someone or something, or an area dominantly controlled by a certain individual or group of a given species.
The project „Territory“ explores themes of power and the phenomenon of the desire to own and control. The region reflects man's desire to control the landscape and nature and also shows a certain futility of doing so. We follow the competition for supremacy over a specific existing territory between man and nature, where nature manifests itself as a successful and viable opponent.

The confrontation shown takes place in a specific area, which is a former military area in Western Bohemia near Klenová Castle, which is now partially absorbed by nature after being abandoned by the army.

The whole series is the story of a landscape that changes over time. The individual prints are conceived as sections of the map and capture parts of the area in space and time. First I walked and explored the entire area from inside, but than I took the individual views from overview and wider views. I drew the materials from 3D maps created on the basis of satellite images.
The technique of layering is chosen to express the space and capture the intermingling of natural and civilized elements. The image area is divided by a grid and evokes a map, a virtual landscape space. In it, the individual elements of the landscape are placed in different levels. This imaginary map is indeed not flat, it has depth, an inner space, which allows the viewer to move in different planes of thought, spatial dimensions and time layers. This encourages him to explore the landscape more deeply, not only in space, but also in time, and to think about it and its development.

The project was started as part of the international linocut symposium organized by the Klatovy/Klenová Gallery. On the basis of the cycle, the objects "Territory" were created, which was part of the exhibition "Civitas Natura" in the Hollar Gallery Prague, and the object "Never ending landscape", which was part of the exhibition "Infinite space" in the New Town Hall Gallery in Prague.

Teritorium je území, na které si někdo nebo něco činí nárok, respektive se jedná o oblast dominantně kontrolovanou určitým jedincem nebo skupinou daného druhu.
Projekt zkoumá téma moci a fenomén touhy po vlastnění a ovládání. Obzvlášť reflektuje touhu člověka po ovládání krajiny a přírody a zobrazuje i určitou marnost tohoto počínání. Sledujeme soupeření o nadvládu nad konkrétním stávajícím územím mezi člověkem a přírodou, kde se příroda projevuje jako úspěšný a životaschopný soupeř.

Zobrazená konfrontace se odehrává v konkrétní oblasti, kterou je bývalá vojenská oblast v Jiznich Cechach u hradu Klenová, které je nyní po opuštění armadou částečně pohlcováno přírodou

Celá série je příběhem krajiny, která se přejmenuje v čase. Jednotlivé tisky jsou pojaty jako výseky mapy a zachycují části oblasti v prostoru i v čase. Zemi jsem celou prochodil a prozkoumal, ale jednotlivá zobrazení jsem pojal z nadhledu a ve větších celcích. Podklady jsem čerpal z 3D map pořízených na základě satelitních snímků.
Pro vyjádření prostoru a zachycení prolínání přírodních a civilizačních prvků je zvolena technika vrstvení. Plocha je rozdělena mřížkou a evokuje mapu, virtuální prostor země. V té jsou jednotlivé prvky země umístěny v různých úrovních. Tato pomyslná mapa totiž není plošná, má hloubku, vnitřní prostor, což umožňuje divákovi pohybovat se v různých myšlenkových rovinách, prostorových dimenzích i časových vrstvách. To ho vybízí zkoumat zemi hlouběji, nejen v prostoru, ale také v čase a zamyslet se nad ní a jejím vývojem.

Projekt byl započat v rámci mezinárodního sympozia linorytu organizovaného Galerii Klatové/Klenová.

Na podkladě cyklu byl vytvořeny objekty "Teritorium", který byl součástí výstavy "Civitas Natura" v Galerii Hollar a objekt "Nikdy nekončící krajina", který byl siučástí výstavy "Nekonečný prostor" v Novoměstské radnici v Praze.
