"Places and spaces" is an extensive series of linocuts that explores various forms of relationships and interactions between man and the environment he comes into contact with. Observes the natural environment in various stages of change, caused by human activity, the environment that man has left and to which nature returns, their mutual struggle and symbiosis. In other parts, the series captures the environment inhabited by people, interiors, mediated references to nature, artificially created environment etc.
With exceptions, man is latently present as an observer. His physical absence is represented by civilization artifacts and traces of his activity, sometimes hard to perceive, other times completely obvious.
In other parts, the series explores the limits of human perception and reflection of reality. The individual views are based on actual real situations captured photographically. However, they capture specific sections of reality that are sometimes at the limit of readability. The essence of the event is hidden in small details (for example, the subtle undulations of the surface in "Invisible Touch"), in the uncertainty and deliberate substitutionion of natural and civilizational elements (Orogenesis), it is hidden in dense structures (Network, Enlightened place), intermingling of layers and dimensions ( Zen, Reservoir, Protector ). Unexpected combinations place higher demands on the viewer's attention and appeal to openness of perception and a certain degree of intuition.
On an artistic level, the series explores the possibilities of mimetic display and the limits of the given technique. Photographic records of reality undergo a gradual transformation, resulting in hand-engraved linocut matrixes. Within the abstract flat form of linocut, they capture the richness of forms and structures, sometimes to the point of haptic impression (Equnimity, Reservoir). In the first stage, the matrixes are printed in the classic way in black on a white background. Subsequent colored author's editions push and abstract the display to the limit of the recognizable. The spaciousness and intermingling of dimensions is enhanced by further layering in a series of double three-dimensional prints using Japanese semi-transparent papers. The ideas occupied in the individual works of the series are then further developed by further combinations with prints from other series (Territory, Human cares) in the creation of spatial objects.
The series is divided into four parts, which are interconnected and are focused on specific thematic areas. The fifth part and the objects then place the scenes in new contexts.
Most of the motifs I use are related to my childhood experiences. I consider them archetypal symbols that have a more general character and are projected into the human subconscious, and at the same time I use them as representatives of important events and phenomena that affect the whole society (curtains, bars, fences, reflections, stylized plant patterns, containers, a lonely tree, impenetrable bushes, etc.).
